Private notebook, 2006

Concerning her first collection, Nadine Labedade was inspired by a childhood memory, a “private notebook” her mother offered to her when she was six years old. That space of freedom she discovered as a child, in which she dared write words the way she wanted to, using capital letters all the time, was the same as the one she is exploring nowadays as a space involving the pleasure to work on noble materials, achieve colour compositions and create volumes and shapes.

This first collection was also a kind of exploration of the relations between the piece of clothing and the body. Whether it is close-fitting or loose, which posture does it impose on the person who puts it on ? How can the designer favour a sensitive contact between the material and the skin ? Nadine Labedade either referred to her own build to design close-fitting clothes or took some distance from it to fit different builds.
